Dirty Dishes

Sometimes life can be embarrasing. And usually we tend to hide those moments away. We don't like to share our most embarrasing moments, but this one is also kinda funny, so I am sharing.

First of all, this is NOT a normal occurence. Which makes it okay! :) So when i was sick i didn't feel like doing ANYTHING, so i didn't. Maybe you are different and you still clean your house and what not when you are sick. I am NOT like that and i was REALLY sick, so i didn't budge from the couch and when i changed my clothes stayed in the spot that they dropped from my body (you get the picture). My dear husband was so paranoid that he would get sick that he kind of avoided being at home. He took care of me and got me chicken noodle soup and what not, but he was not about to stay home and clean or anything. So you can imagine how bad it got.

Especially the dishes. I hate doing dishes as it is and we have no dishwasher, which makes it worse. But to compound everthing, our kitchen sink is not draining. It is as solidly stuffed up as my nose was! And in a place that we can not fix. So we would have to hire a plumber and a plumber costs money, so there it sits, not able to drain. This adds a new complexity to the drugery of doing dishes. We have to do them in our one dishpan and then put them on the counter, take the pan outside, dump it, rinse it and then fill it with clean water to then rinse the clean dishes on the counter in and transfer them to the dish drainer. It is doable, but not fun.

Needless to say, my husband was NOT about to do dishes. And neither was I. Fast forward to present day. My kitchen table is completely covered with every single plate we own, all of our silverware, most of our kitchen utensils, all of our pots and pans and a few miscellaneous items. All of which have not been rinsed at all, because our sink doesn't drain! This is what was facing me this afternoon when i got home from church. Four hours worth of dishes, at least. And all i wanted to do, was paint my nails and take a nap!

I had asked my dad earlier to invite me over for lunch so I could get out of doing my dishes, but then my responsible side kicked in and realized if i didn't do at least SOME dishes, we wouldn't be eating this week, unless it was with our hands! So i went home and got some lunch, put it on our last remaining clean plate and settled myself into the mind set i would need for the afternoons work. (my husband had to work today, so i was home alone).

I had just finished my lunch when my sister called. And this is what she said: Dad says to put all your dishes in your laundry basket and come over her and use the dishwasher! I wasn't sure what to think about this. because i had thought of it and it was tempting but there where a few things holding me back:

Number 1: It is embarrasing that i have this many dishes dirty! That i have been this lazy and not got it done! It is worse then airing your dirty laundry to your parents!

Number 2: I didn't think all of my dishes would fit in the laundry baskets i had!

Number 3: when i got most of my dishes into the laundry basket i couldn't move it.

To make a long story short, i did bring all of my dirty dishes, in laundry baskets, to my parents house and i am now going home with clean ones. And it does feel good to have them all done, and i will never let this happen again, i will make michael do them if i get sick again. But it was still embarrasing!

Nasty bugs and secret tricks

I have been a woman of few words lately. Very few. My whole world got kinda scrambled. See, it all started with me getting the flu. And let me tell you, whatever bug is going around right now, you DO NOT want to get it. It is big and bad and nasty. And unfortunately, i ended up getting sick while out with some friends. Thankfully i made it to there house where i proceeded to puke in their drive way. I hate it when that happens. No one wants other people besides maybe their mom to see them, or hear them, when they are puking. I did not luck out on that one. Okay, so i got the flu, no big deal. But this was no ordinary flu. See i am a healthy person. This was the first time i had been sick in THREE YEARS! So imagine my surprise when it took me a week to feel like getting up off the couch, another week to feel like eating again and now it has been almost 5-6 weeks and i am finally not feeling exhausted.

oh, but that's not all. this flu started a chain reaction and i ended up with three different bouts with infection (i will spare you the grisly details) and a massive cold, courtesy of my wonderful, loving husband. and it is that kind of cold that solidly stuffs up your nose for a couple days and you can't even breath.

BUT.....I discovered nasal spray!!!! If you have not tried it, you should. It is awesome!! Within seconds, i could breath and it lasted for like 12 hours! only bummer is you can't use it for more then three days or your nose will get addicted to it and then you won't be able to breath without it. Oh, and it tastes gross when it goes down the back of your throat, but it is a small price to pay for being able to breath again. Today i am feeling much better, almost 100% again and i am starting to be able to taste my food again, which is wonderful. It is hard to make yourself eat when you can't even taste what you are eating!

Chocolate Monster

The chocolate craze is back. In full force! AAAAHHHHHH! okay, not quite in full force. Last time i was willing to forgo normal food just so i could buy chocolate icecream. The monster is a little more tame this time, but still desperately craving chocolate.

You know, i read somewhere that a woman burns extra calories in this murderous week once a month. So you could loose weight without even trying! Except for that we always eat more this week too. darn it.

See i am a healthy eating person, and when i actually want to (and do) eat chocolate icecream, and only chocolate icecream, for a meal (!) then i know for sure the monster is back.

Hopefully it won't be like this when i am pregnant. Then i will never gain just a healthy weight and will end up with a whole other person to loose at the end. Darn those skinny girls who look normal the day after.

Anyway, first the monster wanted chocolate brownies. Then he wanted ONLY homemade chocolate buttercream frosting. Now this one is usually the worst because most of the time we don't have graham crackers and so i usually end of making it and then eating the frosting with the spoon i stirred it with. all of it. Now he wants chocolate icecream which seems to be the most consistent and longest lasting craving.

You see, my monster is picky. Just plain old chocolate will not do. Texture and presentation is everything. So if the monster wants brownies, chocolate icecream will not satisfy the craving! Is this kinda weird? I think it is kinda weird. But it is my monster, and part of who I am, and i am learning to embrace it. And also to put the monster on a leash that way i don't get fatter every month because of chocolate!

Blessings

God is amazing. If you don't know Him, you should. He is so understanding. He provides so much for me and yet still lets me complain when i am frustrated or fed up with my life. And yet He always gently shows me where i am wrong, correcting me where I am not being fair.

Lately i have been so frustrated with so many things in my life. Nothing was going how i wanted it to. As women, we seem to have an idea of how our life will turn out, even without realizing it. And sometimes you can only take so much of it not going as planned, or just not going good at all. So I have been complaining, and moping around. And do you know what God did? He used someone in my life to smack me up side the head (figuratively of course) and show me how much i have to be thankful for.

I have a friend who has had so many big, bad things go wrong in just the past couple of weeks. And then i got an email from her, praising God for how good he has been to her, in spite of everything that has happened. I mean, i could feel her screaming at the top of her lungs about how great God has been to her through her EMAIL! And i thought about what she has been through and what she is going through, and i was ashamed. How dare I complain about my life? I don't have a teaspoon of the problems she is having or has had. And yet i rant and rave and find reasons to be unhappy.

I had to change my attitude. And i thanked God that i am not strong enough to handle what she is going through (cause God never gives us something we can't handle with his help). Because i don't ever want to go through all of that. I have so much to be thankful for, more then i thank him for already. It just puts life into perspective in a big way.

So what have you been thankful for today?

Green tights

I don't know many adults that dress up for Haloween. Most don't even want to get close to a costume let alone choose to dress up. But i think it is fun! So this year, me and my husband are dressing up to be Peter Pan and Wendy. (he of course wanted me to be tinker bell with her tiny little dress :) but i said no way, we are going to church in this stuff!) You see our church has a Harvest Festival instead of Haloween and it is actually a lot of fun! The adult get to play bingo for great prizes like dinner for two and a hotel stay! So we are going!

the funny part about all of this, and the part i can't believe, is that by deciding to be Peter Pan my husband is agreeing to wearing tights. Or nylons, or whatever you want to call them. I think this is hilarious! I can't wait to see the look on his face when he has to put them on! Granted he did wear a form of a dress last year as you can see:
